Is this possible in English language?

Question: Is it necessary in the English language that a synonym of a noun be noun and synonym of an adjective be adjective? Or can the synonym of a noun be an adjective also and vice-versa?

How could it be a synonym if they are not both the same in this respect? It's not just something that happens in English. It happens like that in all languages.
