Is this phrased naturally?

Hi teachers. Is this phrased naturally?

Husband: "Let me take her for a walk. You need some time off." He smiled at his wife. She smiled back. As he began walking away with the baby carriage, she yelled after him, "I love you."

The style of this does not match the rest of the paragraph. We normally use this style with a colon when the whole content is essentially dialogue (perhaps with some descriptions interspersed), e.g. in a play or film script. The quotation marks are then normally omitted.
