Is this out of the question, totally wrong?

Is it totally wrong to punctuate a salutation in the following manner (ie comma before name; colon after name)?

Hi, Jake:

I am inquiring about ...

Nobody has any authority to say it's totally wrong - it's just overly fussy.

As an informal salutation, 'Hi, Jake,' is just fine.

I receive a lot of emails from friends and colleagues that have no salutation or 'sign-off' at all.
As long as they say please and/or thanks as appropriate, that's all fine with me.
