Hi teachers. Is this OK:
Walking down the hall, Mike suddenly stops as he spots the name "Joseph Finney" on a door.
?
- Is it clear that he stops because/when he spots the name on the door?
- Is "spots" OK if Mike wasn't looking for Joseph Finney's office, he just discovered it by accident as he came past?
The sentence is well written and very clear.

You can't use "suddenly" in every sentence. Once is too much, as a matter of fact. But if you must use adverbs, at least vary them. Mike can stop abruptly, for example, or jerk to a halt.
