I wouldn't find it objectionable if someone said that to me on the phone, but if you want to be really polite you could say "Could you wait just a minute, please?" This would make it sound more like a request and less like an order.

I actually said that on the phone to a customer and instantly realized it sounded a bit rude. ![]()
