Is this my mishearing?

I love the song Greatest love of all sung by Whitney Houston.

I can hear the phrase 'I decided long ago...' twice on the lyrics in this song.

And at the first time, she says following.

(1) I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadows.

But I can hear on the second, she says..

(2) I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's matters.

Is (2) makes sense?

And if there are any mistake in my question, tell me.
