Is this metaphor correct?

Hi,

I am writing a story about a girl who is open minded and is trying to change her life. She's been through trauma and is trying to better herself by being open-minded, exploring new ideas that could possible help her heal.

I want to use a metaphor describing that. Such as:

"The channel is open, the ship just needs to go through"

Does that sound okay?

Thanks in advance!

You need to compare something with something else to be a metaphor.

E.g., She is a ship sailing through the channel.

That's an interesting metaphor, and quite impressive if you're a non-native speaker.
