Is the following sentence grammatically correct? "In what way is this kid good-looking that also makes him appear ridiculous" ? I have been told by a number of native-speakers of English that this sentence is intelligible that it doesn't make sense. Thank you

It seems to be self-contradictory, but I think I understand it. Grammatically, it works.

The sentence is very difficult to understand. If you're trying to say that he's so good-looking that it is ridiculous, I would instead say "in what way is this kid so good-looking that is is ridiculous?". Otherwise known as "ridiculously good-looking".
