Hello! I need your advice! Could you please tell me does this sentence sound good or I should change some words?

I was committed to achieving high results in my future profession that is why I was working part-time as an interpreter during 5 years of study. There ( I mean with the help of my job) I obtained an essential experience in my specialization and personal development.

and is it possible to say was working here? or have been working?
