Is this formal?

"I would start off by saying that you are . . .". Is this formal enough for a letter from a student to a teacher (an assignment, not personal)

Too formal. I suggest 'I would like to start off by . ' Or you could consider omitting those introductory words entirely and just saying what you want to say.

Too formal.

I suggest 'I would like to start off by . . '

Or you could consider omitting those introductory words entirely and just saying what you want to say.
