Is this double negative?

There was no other Joseph in the family of the king, neither living nor dead. Or should it be either living or dead? Thanks in advance for your help!

There was no other Joseph in the family of the king... There was neither a living nor dead Joseph.
There was no other Joseph in the family of the king... There was no Joseph either living or dead.
