Is this correct grammar and natural?

Would it not be better to say

the more...the better
or
He gets better as he paints.

Is
He gets better the more he ..... correct form I thought it had to be 'the more he .... the better he...'

For me, these are all acceptable

The more he paints the better he gets
He gets better the longer/more he paints.
He gets better as he paints.

The last one has just a slightly different feel or emphasis.

I cannot think of any situation in which "make it so" could behave as a conjunction. Could you give an example of the sort of sentence you are thinking of?
