The trunk opened, and the stifling air I'd breathed all day momentarily became crisp, cold and pure. The sudden change in temperature made me shudder, as if I'd stepped out of a sauna into an ice cold shower. I’d travelled North, that's certain, but where exactly? I hadn't a clue.
My leg had become tangled in a thick tweedy rope during the journey, so it was difficult for me to sit upright to discern my surroundings, and figure out to where exactly I'd been driven. It took the best part of half an hour to untangle it from my swollen leg, which involved a lot of awkward bodily manoeuvres a circus extortionist would perform on stage.
No sooner after freeing myself, I sat upright, hitting my head on the roof of the trunk whilst doing so, and then fell out of it onto the snow covered ground. Darkness consumed my body. Lights on the trunk door were the only point of light and reference for me. This made it difficult to see a couple of feet beyond the car itself.
I let out a breathy sigh, gathered my senses together, and stood up, precariously. I hobbled a couple of feet back to the trunk of the car, and began rummaging around for anything useful in there. Ouch! That stung! Numbness followed. I collapsed onto the snowy ground, and everything quickly became a blur thereafter. I’d been poisoned.
