Is this correct?

I want to say 'In honor of this event'. The context: My friend has a birthday party, I gave a speech and at the end I want to say 'in honor of this event I've prepared...' It doesn't sound quite right to me, but I can't find any other alternative. Thanks in advance for your help!

Happy student in honor of this event Well, you are not honoring the party I'm sure. I think you mean something more like For this (momentous) occasion I've prepared ... You can use "momentous" to sound grand or to make the statement more amusing, depending how formal you want to be.
