Is this correct?

My colleague resigned from work 13 months ago.

Today I commented on this to my family saying,
'John has been left 13 months'

Is this correct? My family all think it is wrong.

I look forward to a response.

  • That's the reverse of what you want to say.
  • You want one of these: John has been gone for 13 months.

No. If John "has been left", then everybody went away and left John alone. That's the reverse of what you want to say. You want one of these:

John has been gone for 13 months.
John left 13 months ago.
