Thanks for answering. I actually wanted to use a word other than 'not' in, "Did she guess the answer in time or not?" So can I say, "Did she guess the answer in time or late? Somewhere I feel that 'late' would be wrong here.

You could say it, but it is informal. Just use 'Did she guess the answer in time?'
