Is this correct

I like European history, but I just learn by watching its movies on TV.

In my opinion, this is correct and easily understood, but I find the use of "its" a bit unusual. I'd use a few more words. " Well, that's not as elegant.

In my opinion, this is correct and easily understood, but I find the use of "its" a bit unusual. I'd use a few more words.
Eg, "by watching movies involving European history on TV." Well, that's not as elegant.
