Is this correct?

In a sentence like this, would both options be correct:

All I want to do for Christmas is (to) go skiing.

Top answer

Hi, All I want to do on *Christmas is go skiing. All I want to do on Christmas is to go skiing. Both are correct, but no doubt the infinitive marker is commonly omitted in such cases.

Is there a rule why the 'to' is omitted?

Hi,
Not that I am aware of. It is just more idiomatic when to is left out in that case.

OK, one last thing: could the ing work instead of the bare infinitive?
