Is this correct?
"It will hold the world cup soccer tournament"
It is replacing South Africa. Sounds a little awkward to me. Anyway I appreciate any information. Alson what is the difference between It is him and It is he? Cheers.

You should say "South Africa will hold the world cup soccer tournament." unless you mentioned that South Africa was holding it in a previous sentance.
