Is this correct?

My friend and I have a bet. He says the sentence "Please let me know if there were any questions" is correct. I say it should be "Please let me know if there are any questions." The sentence is not referring to the past. There is an explanation of a procedure just before that sentence. The intent is really to say "let me know if you have any questions."

So, is it "were" or "are"?

Thanks!

Hi, Use 'are'. 'Were' sounds very odd. Best wishes, Clive

"are" is correct if you are asking someone to ask you the question, "were" would be correct if your friend is asking you to report back to him if there were any questions asked as a result...........

Please let me know if there are any questions (regarding this procedure). - you would ask the reader

Congratulations, Marilu! You have won the bet!

Maybe your friend was thinking of a sentence like this one:

I would let you know if there were any quest
