is this correct?

Is the question, "what is asked?", grammatically correct? This is found in some Math textbooks. To teach the kids how to solve word problems, the books list the steps and the first step is to determine "what is asked?"

Yes, "What is asked?" is grammatical, as are "What is done?", "What is seen?", "What is heard?", "What is said?", and so on, although they do seem to be a bit stingy with words.
