Is this clear, correct and natural?

A few of the hostages have huddled together... (they're talking about their captors)

Hostage 1: How many do you count?

Hostage 2: They're down to six.

Hostage 3: If we attack together we can take them.

Another hostage comes over.

Hostage 4: Take who? Them? Are you guys out of your mind? They would kill you.

1) Is this clear, correct and natural? (not just the dialog)

2) I have heard "we can take them" used in American movies. Is it okay in this context? Does it mean "we can kill them" or just "we can defeat them"?
