Is this bold part connected to "the memories" ?

An ITV documentary on Monday brings the memories flooding back of how Nigel Benn left Gerald McClellan paralysed and blind after their shocking fight 16 years ago.

I think the bold part "of how...years ago" seems to be related to "the memories".

Am I right?

If so, can I rewrite the sentence as "An ITV documentary on Monday brings the memories of how Nigel Benn left Gerald McClellan paralysed and blind after their shocking fight 16 years ago." ("flooding back" is removed")
