Is this Better?

Poverty in Nepal is extremely different than poverty in the United States. The United States

government has programs that help poor families survive such as welfare, food stamps and even low rent houses. However, Nepal government does not have any programs to provides assistance to poorfamilies. Poor families in Nepal are forced to beg others in the streets or work as servants in order to survive.

Karma Gurung grew in very poor families. His family could not always afford food and

sometimes would have to beg others in the streets for food. They spent the beginning of their childhood working in fields to help provide food for their family.

When I was 9-years- old, I was not able to attend school right away. My father made go on the

streets and beg for a job or food so that my family can eat," Gurung said

Many children are not able to attend school because they are forced to work at a young age.Children are forced to work in harsh conditions for low wages, beg in the streets, or steal. Most

households have little or no access to basic services such as: health care, education, clean

drinking water , and restrooms.

Nepal is a land locked country located in southern Asia, between India and China. Its'

population is over 26 million. According to an article written in WebBank, Nepal is the poorest countryin South Asia and ranks as the twelfth poorest country in the world.

However, poverty does not have a big impact on Nepal's culture. Nepal culture is known for its

religion, music and its style of dress.

Nepal's and the United States cultures are very different .

"Kids in Nepal are taught to conform more with parental ambitions. While America is at the very

core a very liberal society, Nepal could be considered a more conservative society,"_____ said.

An important part of Nepal's culture is its religion. Nepal has over thirty different ethnic groups and multiple religions. However, the most common religion is Hindu. In Nepal, religion unites people together. Unlike other countries whose citizens are divided into a several other faiths. Nepal's religions has a large impact on their style of dress.

In Nepal, boys wear a dress called Labeda-Suruwal which consists of a long vest over pants and it is designs identify our religious beliefs. In America, boys have a very different style of dress and there clothing does not reveal their religion," ___ said.
