Is this awkward?

Please be gentle... This sentence appears to be awkward and I would like some help on what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance.

"I was not made aware that there was ever an issue with their license."

The "that there" portion is what bugs me.

The sentence makes sense to me.

I'm breaking it down into parts:

I was not made aware
that there
was ever
an issue
with their license.

The "that" is actually unnecesary, but not incorrect. "I was not made aware there was ever an issue with their license." is also fine.

Awesome! Thanks guys! It feels so weird to leave "that" out of the sentence but you're right, it isn't necessary.
