Your sentence is OK, if a bit awkward at least in AmE. You could say "What do you want? but that sounds too abrupt.

You could say:
"What can i get you?"
"What are you looking for?"
"Can i help you find what you want?"
"What would you like?"

The awkward part, i think, i the 'what is it that'.
