Is This A Present Participle Or Gerund?

The situation scarcely warrants them being dismissed.

I'd like to see if being is a participle or gerund.

Top answer

Probably a present participle, but it doesn't really matter. Modern grammar recognises only one ing form, calling it a gerund-participle verb.
