is this a metaphor?

I have a quick question. Would "The roar of the ocean greeted me, as I slammed my hands over my ears" be considered a metaphor? If it isn't, how could I tweak it so that it is one?

Hi Anon, "The roar of the ocean greeted me" might be an example of personification. The stupendous roar of the calm ocean.... You need to add some adjectives.

The ocean is a lion is the sort of thing you want.

Speaker meaning must differ from word meaning to have a metaphor.

The roar of the ocean greeted me.

greeted is a case of metaphoric language. The ocean cannot literally greet anyone (nor can its roar).

Strictly speaking, metaphors are in the form X is Y.
