Is this a good use of the word subsequently or should it be then?

During the fight, an arrow struck Alhana’s horse, and the elven woman was thrown and knocked unconscious after receiving a serious head injury. Porthios immediately went to Alhana’s aid; however, found he was unable to heal her. A mysterious priest subsequently appeared out of the forest and offered his aid to Porthios.
