No, "required to" would be unnatural in that sentence; try "supposed to" instead.

Well, in this particular excercise, students have to use the passive voice and
the expression "live up to one's expectations."

Considering their limited knowledge, I thought "be required to" and "be expected to"
would be good choices. But I can't think of any other ways to put it. :-( I gues my
knowledge is as limited as my students'. I wonder if there is a easy but better
