Is this a comma splice?

"I doubt [name] is a big fan of mine, but after hearing his speech, he might be surprised by how much we agree on."

I'd say the 3rd clause is in comma splice with the 2nd, however, putting a full stop there would make it look very disconnected. Any suggestions?

Thanks you

However, the way it reads, he heard his own speech.

Can you explain why because the third clause is an independent one. Thanks.

It's independent, but the "after" in the preceding clause makes it dependent.

You have two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction:

I doubt he is a big fan of mine, but after hearing his speech, he might be surprised by how much we agree on.

So there is no comma splice.

I would move the comma.

I doubt [name] is a big fan of mine but, after hearing his speech, he might be surprised by how much we agree on.

Is no one else bothered by the phrasing that suggests that "he" heard "his" speech and that somehow would create surprise in what "they" agree on? The author of the passage heard the other guy's speech, but that's not how it reads.

Yes. The sentence makes little sense as it stands.

These two do, though the meanings are different.:

"I doubt [name] is a big fan of mine but, after hearing the speech I'm giving tomorr

I completely missed that Emotion: smile . Which brings up other issues. I'm going to answer my own question and mark the errors red.

You need that comma too.
