'Is there' vs 'was there'

Hi,

Is it correct to using 'was there' in past tenses? I mean like I was late and I'm asking someone about wat was interesting before I came how should I ask this?

Was there anything interesting? or Was anything interesting? or somehow else?

"Was there anything interesting" seems ok to me; "I'm late; what happened earlier, was there anything interesting?"

"Was anything interesting" doesn't sound right to my ear.
