Is there something in / on your mind?

Is there something in / on your mind? I think that this is one of the very controversial issues among people still and I think "in" here is more natural, but some do not agree with me. So what do you think of it? Thank you for your time and help as usual.

You have something in mind when you have formed an image of what you want: "Good morning, Mrs. Wallowoo, and welcome to my shoe store. What sort of shoe did you have in mind?" Note that there is no pronoun; the sale
