There are many rules.
Here are two of them.
1. You have to begin the sentence with a capital letter.
2. You have to end the sentence with a period, question mark, or exclamation point.

Other punctuation marks used in sentences are the comma, the semicolon, the colon and quotation marks.

After you master simple sentences, try compound sentences next, then complex-compound sentences.
