Is there any difference between these sentences in meaning?

Hi,

Is there any difference between the following sentences?

"Over 500 years the visual effects of light have been studied by researcher."

"The visual effects of light have been studied by researcher for more than 500 years."

Thanks!

" 'over 500 years' at the beginning makes it sound like 'during 500 years', which I don't think you want. It doesn't have the same meaning as your second sentence. You can make both sentences mean the same thing by starting the first sentence with " For over 500 years".
