Is there a word or term to say this?

Let's say a country lost a major war. It got totally blown away and it has little or no chance of ever recovering back to its full strength. what kind of situation or position is this? is it war-torn or what? thanks

"War-torn" implies the war is still going on. "Utterly devastated by the recent war" would do, but I wish I could think of a single word or term.

In context a good choice. Assume the Iraq war is over and you could say. Iraq was crippled by the war. It may never recover.
