Is there a word for the situation when the father dies realising his son is incompetent?

Suppose a king is dying, and he knows that his son is a debauchee and incompetent for ruling. Is there a proper word which can be placed at the following blank:

“The king died with ___”

I can think of a few words:

1. heavy heart

2. sorrow

3. Exasperation

but none of the above words convey the feeling that I intend it to convey. Can you suggest me some suitable words?
