Is there a verb in English for inserting a screw without tightening?

In my native language there is a special verb meaning 'inserting a screw without tightening' (sometimes before you screw some parts together you just need to insert several screws without tightening them too much just to get the parts into position). My question is: is there an analogous verb in English language?

The only two I can think of are tack and baste . Tack might come the closest to what you are looking for, but it is less specific than ******** - it just means to fasten temporarily. Baste is used in sewing - to temporarily join two pieces of cloth.

Generally in English this would be called "finger tightening", for obvious reasons.
