Grammar

Is there a preferred format when tutoring grammar to yourself?

Hi all,

for the last couple of weeks I have been trying to teach myself some basics of grammar, I do have some instinctive knowledge around grammar but do not consciously know or understand many of the grammatical terms/ structures. I have bought myself a book and research online, but the way I am learning seems ad hoc and incoherent. Is there a preferred structured way to learn? Are there things that I should learn first to give me a foundation for the later complexities?

Please help

Thank you

No, not really. Take each module as you discover it (verb tenses, conditional verbs, irregular plurals, dependent clauses, etc.)

Which book did you buy? Most grammar books tend to be for reference, which means they don't follow any set pattern. The self-study books are often more structured in layout. Even as a teacher I sometimes do the exercises in a self study book before reading my grammar book as it often makes more sense in practise and activates schemata as to what I'm reading.
