Is there a mistake?

I'm concerned about the use of fewer, if it is the right word and whether playing is correct or play?

He's playing--plays 3 fewer minutes each year. In 2010 he played 34 minutes a game, in 2011 31 minutes, in 2012 28 minutes.

Top answer

He's playing an average of 3 fewer minutes each year. Fewer is right in this case - you are literally counting the minutes so each one is separate.
