Is there a difference betwen using thest two phrases?

I and I have?

Example

I played that game before.

vs

I've played that game before.

Are they both correct? What's the difference?

I played that game before-- simple past tense: a plain statement of a past fact I've played that game before-- present perfect tense: the speaker is relating the past fact to the present in some way (perhaps he is being invite to play the game now)
