Is there a difference between "cachet" and "hallmark"?

Dictionary.com defines "cachet" as:

"a distinguishing mark or feature; stamp:"

Example: Courtesy is the cachet of good breeding.

It defines hallmark as: "any distinguishing feature or characteristic."

Example: Accuracy is a hallmark of good scholarship

Both words relay a sense of distinguishing feature, but is there really a difference between these words?

reptax is there really a difference between these words? In my opinion the real difference is frequency. You hear and see "hallmark" much more often than "cachet" for that meaning — more than 6 times as often according to the Google Ngram Viewer.
