Is there a better word than "forgive" for...?

The word "forgive" means to let someone go for wrongdoing. However, it doesn't really make sense to "forgive" someone for doing something if the person is not at fault.

It's a bit confusing, but here's an example:

"I forgave the street boy for picking my pocket." The boy was a thief, and the speaker forgave him.

But consider this:

"I forgave the teacher for sending me to the office." Assuming the speaker misbehaved in class, it doesn't make sense to "forgive" the teacher for punishing him, as she did nothing wrong. I know we can say, "I do not blame the teacher for sending me to the office." However, is there a single word that can substitute "do not blame"? I know there is "justify" and "excuse," they replacing "do not blame" with those words seems very awkward.

Thanks.
