Skill expected during my MSc for my Career Development

My aim would be to prepare myself for teaching and research positions in the academic, government, or private sectors. In order to achieve that, research methodology is the most valuable skill that I would appreciate most. Upon completing my master, I must do a dissertation on any of the 4 specialisation areas; public health nutrition, clinical nutrition, obesity and weight management or sports and exercise nutrition. Along the way, I would anticipate skills such as literature searching, academic journal review, statistics and data handling. Thus, I am very optimistic to have the ability to analyse publication, and hence to keep abreast with latest advance in nutrition.

In nutrition field, it is important to identify strategies that will promote healthy eating habits in specific populations and prioritising nutrition care plan pertinent to the patient. This is where the real critical skill comes in. In order to develop the skill, I should be able to have a deep understanding of my study. This can be done by assisted or self-directed searching, reviewing, evaluating, critically appraising and interpreting relevant scientific literature. Throughout the one year study, I would get to mingle with people of different intellectual and problem solving ability, which is a credit to my critical skill development.
