Is the word fine to use here?

Hi,
I would like to know if 'melancholy' is fine in the sentence.
'This line in the lyrics is very melancholy.'

First thing that came to my mind for that sentence was "Melancholic".Then I looked it up and saw that melancholy and melancholic are definedalmost the same. Is there a subtle difference I'm missing?
