Is the use of "First" and "Secondly" proper in this case?

First, he granted Raistlin hourglass eyes, which forced him to see the accelerated passage of time unfold on those around him. Secondly, Par-Salian gave Raistlin the powerful Staff of Magius.

When I use these time words, I think I use the same person doing the actions. I'm not sure what Raistlin received came from the same person. If so, I think it would be better: First, Par-Salian granted Raistlin....
