Is the underlined sentence correct?

I'm on leave. I haven't been working for 4 months due to depression. In fact my boss called yesterday, but I didn't answer the phone. I think he'd like to know when he should expect me back. It's just hard because I don't feel ready at all, and I don't know if he'll understand.

Is the underlined sentence correct and natural? And how does it differ from "I think he wants to know when he should expect me back."?
