Is the underlined section fine?

During the marriage on June 1, 2004 their son, John XXX, was born, but on May 14, 2010 they had a daughter, Jenny XXX.

That part is OK, but the first part, "During the marriage ...", reads a bit oddly. It sounds as if they got married on June 1, 2004, and the son was born unexpectedly during the actual wedding ceremony (which I assume is not actually what you mean).
