Is the subject omitted or not?

I ate and slept at my house. Is the following statement correct regarding the sentence above?: Originally there is I before the verb slept but people tend to omit the subject I.I am confused because I thought it was not that the subject was omitted before the verb slept but it was not supposed to be there to begin with anyway. Isn't the sentence is one sentence, not two? Which one is correct, one or two sentences? Thanks.
