Is the SQRRR that much more effective then the normal study method?

I was justing wonder on your opinions and anedotes on the effectiveness of the SQ3R method compared to the standard method of read ing and reviewing plus taking notes. The reason I asking is recently I have attempted the SQ3R method of study and found that it took me thrice the time it took than the regular method. Thus I was wondering if the payoff is truly as signicant as it stated in the findings.

I have never heard of SQRRR, but it seems to be roughly what I do when I browse the book store, choose a book, read it and then use its contents for learning or discussion. For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the method, here it is: Process Survey The first step Survey or skim advises that one should resist the temptation to read the book and instead glance through a chapter in order to identify headings, sub-headings and other outstanding features in the text. This is in order to identify ideas and formulate questions about the content of the chapter.

I find it works better because it focuses you on the chapter and helps you remember more. Yes, it takes longer, until you get more used to it then I found it took maybe the same amount of time, but I remembered more and had better notes from the chapter to use in studying. Eventually my version of SQRRR evolved to deconstructing the chapters of a book into outline form and learning to abbreviate

This is a very effective method of reading/studying. It is not meant for causal reading. You are quite right is will take a little longer to process you reading but you will be processing the information at a much deeper level which means that your understanding and recall will be better. You speed will improve when you get the hang of it.

You should think of what is involved with these
